How much weight can I hang into the Homebox?
Our Homeboxes are designed to hold all the equipment you could possibly need in a Growbox.
You might not be able to hang your mother-in-law in there but, in any case, we wouldn’t advise it,
for several obvious reasons (even though you could control any odour problems perfectly).
Suggested maximum weights are:
| Homebox XS, S, L, XL: | 50 kg / 100 lbs |
| Homebox XXL: | 2 x 50 kg / 2 x 100 lbs |
Make sure that heavy weights are attached to the centre top poles with the shorter hooks, so that the weight is evenly distributed on all 4 sides.
How much weight can I hang/put into the Clonebox?
The Clonebox is made out of an even sturdier frame with rigid shelves. Each shelf can easily carry 75kg / 165 lbs (US). This enables you to put even the heaviest trays full of water for cuttings into it. And if your mother-in-law is exceptionally small…
Why do you not use metal connectors?
For several reasons. Our connectors are strong enough to hold all equipment needed. Also, frames with metal connectors use the same type of poles, which are the weakest part of the frame anyway.
Our connectors are made from special Nylon-Plastic, which is very durable and, at the same time, light. They do not rust, while metal connectors are likely to start rusting after a while, making it impossible to dismount the frame, as the rust makes the poles stick. Furthermore, using metal connectors adds unnecessarily to the total weight.
Our Homeboxes are engineered to perfectly serve their purpose, not to fool the customer into using parts that feign a purpose without really serving it the best way possible.
How do I determine the right light system for the Homebox/Clonebox? Is there a maximum wattage for each system?
In general, the perfect light system is determined by the use you need the Homebox/Clonebox for. If you want to use it for cuttings, then it’s best to use a low wattage T5- or T8-System or CFL´s.
If you use it for light intensive growing and fruiting phases, we suggest using HPS-/HQI-systems.
Even though there is not really a maximum wattage for the different Homeboxes/the Clonebox, we still feel there is a limit in efficiency. Also, the more wattage you use, the more heat is emitted, which leads to the need for a bigger ventilation system. Have a look at the different product description pages, where we list the recommended equipment.
Here is a little summary as a rough guideline:
| Homebox XS: | 200W CFL / 250W HPS |
| Homebox S: | 250W HPS / 2x 125W CFL |
| Homebox L: | 400W HPS / 2x 200W CFL |
| Homebox XL: | 600W HPS |
| Homebox XXL: | 2x600W HPS |
Clonebox: either you use T5/T8 systems for each shelf, if using it for cuttings/stock plants, or you can use it without the shelves, and put one 250W HPS / 2x 200W CFL into it, for light intensive growing and fruiting phases.
Can I use a light-cooling-device (Coolshade/Cooltube, etc.) with the Homebox/Clonebox?
Yes, sure you can. This will not only decrease the amount of heat directly emitted into the box, but also enable you to move your light source closer to your plants, which increases efficiency. Simply attach the cooling device with air tubes between your filter and extractor.
How do I determine the right blower/extractor for the Homebox/Clonebox?
The right ventilation is determined mainly by the source of light used, the amount of heat being emitted, and the other equipment used. A HPS System emits more heat than a CFL system. A Cooltube or Coolshade will reduce the amount of heat emitted.
As a very rough guideline, we recommend using:
| Up to 250W light (or 400W with cooling system): | 225m3 extractor |
| Up to 400W light (or 600W with cooling system): | 345m3 extractor |
| Up to 600W light: | 420m3 extractor |
The carbon filter should always have a slightly bigger capacity than the extractor used.
Do I need to have a blower for air-intake?
No. In most setups, you do not need an extra blower for active air intake. The passive air intake through the flaps, holes and zippers will be sufficient, as long as the exhaust is strong enough for your setup (see Question no.5). If you do decide to use one, make sure that the exhaust is always much stronger than the intake, or you lose the effect of the negative pressure, and odours will escape unfiltered from the box.
How do you keep light from coming out of the holes?
You can close them with the sewn-in strings. If you do this properly, no light will escape through the holes. If you use an air tube for ventilation, make sure to use a proper tube that does not allow light to travel through it. If you connect the blower/extractor right before/after the hole, it works perfectly as a light barrier as well.
Does the Homebox/Clonebox keep the smell in?
To avoid smells coming from the Homebox/Clonebox you have to use a carbon filter with an exhaust fan creating constant negative pressure.
How do I use the air flaps/passive air intakes at the bottom? Do they leak light?
There are 2 possible ways to use them. Either you tuck the second flooring behind the flap, and have more air flow and thus also a little light leaking, or you tuck them in between the first and second flooring completely and thus reduce the amount of air flow and cut out light leaks.
There is a hole with a tube in the lower right side of the Homebox (L, XL, XXL). What is it for?
The opening on the lower right side can be used for:
- active air intake (always make sure that your outtake fan is stronger than your intake fan)
- passive air intake (you can regulate air flow and light leak by adjusting the hole size with the cords provided)
- External water reservoirs
- Additional cables
Is the floor from the Homebox/Clonebox waterproof?
Yes, it is. But even though the Homebox/Clonebox has an additional waterproof inlet, make sure that the area in which you set up your Homebox/Clonebox is protected against possible tank leaks or other types of water damage, because it is always possible for the material to get scratched or punctured.
A question about the Homebox Light. Is the product also light- and odour-proof? If it is not lightproof, how much light does it let through the canvas? Is it of a different material than the other Homeboxes?
It is a budget version with different tent material which is not fully light-proof. If using a 400W lamp, for example, you will see the light on the whole surface of the box shining through. However, it will keep the plants photoperiod protected from disturbance from normal house lights (up to approx. 60W).
All our other boxes are totally lightproof.
To avoid odours coming from the box, you have to use a carbon filter with an exhaust fan creating constant negative pressure.
Where can I get all the recommended equipment for the Homeboxes/Clonebox?
You can get it in any gardening and hydro store (Growshop). To see a selection of shops, go to:

A question about the Drynet: In which Homeboxes does it fit?
The Drynet has a diameter of 90cm / 35 1/2 inches, so it fits into the Homeboxes L, XL, XXL, and the Light.
Can I get just the covering?
No, only the complete units are sold.
Can I set up the Homebox XXL alone?
Yes, you certainly can! Unlike all other copied boxes/tents, the Homeboxes are all designed to enable you to erect them all by yourself. Have a look at our videos, which will show you exactly how!
I bought a Homebox, but it looks different than the Homeboxes shown on your website. Why?
This can result from one of two very different reasons. First, it can be due to the fact that we constantly upgrade the Homeboxes with the latest developments. We amend changes and improvements to the Homeboxes faster than we can adjust them on our website. These are mostly small changes. If your Homebox seems to be more advanced than the ones shown on the website, this is why.
However, if you find that the Homebox you purchased is in any way of inferior quality to the ones shown on our site, you will very likely have purchased an imitation, a copy, a false Homebox.
There are many different copies of the Homebox on the market. Some companies copy the general design and construction, but give their copy a new name. Others even copy our logo and the brand “Homebox”. Even though we have protected the brand “Homebox”, finding and suing all these companies is a long and tedious process.
If you are uncertain whether or not you have bought an original Homebox, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at info@the-homebox.net, and we will help to find out. Please tell us the date and place of purchase, and the reason why you have doubts. If you can, be prepared to take pictures of certain parts of the Box you purchased, as this will help us identify our Homeboxes fast.
I was wondering about the exact size of the Homebox XXL because I am looking at two very similar websites that say two different measurements for the XXL.
Yes, there are 2 different sizes for the Homebox XL and XXL. We produce bigger sizes for the American market, which are sold solely through our online shop (www.buy-the-homebox.com) at the moment.
The standard sizes can be seen on www.the-homebox.net, as well as on many different sites on the web.
I am wondering about the dimensions for the Homebox XL. It says 56 inches when assembled, yet I saw it somewhere with 1.2 meters, which is 47 inches, so I want to know if it’s really 56 x 56 or 47 x 47. Other sites have it listed at 47 inches too.

I have heard of Growboxes that make plants wilt and die. Can this happen in a Homebox as well? How can you guarantee that it will not happen?
Due to the fact that we have many questions with that concern, we set up a short information page. Click here to view it.
